Synopsis for "Redemption Lost, Part 1"
In 1953, a man interrupts a Christian religious service begging forgiveness and is followed by The Spectre who reveals that the man is Spirit King and the Spirit of Vengeance damns him to Hell just as Mister Terrific arrives, demanding that the villain face human justice. In the present day, Ice Sickle assists Doctor Mid-Nite in a post-mortem.
Elsewhere, Rex Tyler, Hourman and a few Justice Society members encounter Rag Doll and free several children he had abducted. Hourman heads off to find Simple Simon based on a tip. His fellow heroes encourage him to take it easy but he takes a second Miraclo dose and runs away.
At the same church from decades before, the Spectre condemns another murderer to Hell.
In the JSA Museum, Ma Hunkel leads a group of children on a tour while The Atom and Mister Terrific try to find a way to extract Rick Tyler from Timepoint, successfully sending a T-Sphere into the Timestream.
The JSA goes to Portsmouth to help Dr. Mid-Nite investigate a series of murders and Mid-Nite takes an opportunity to pray at the nearby church where he and Mr. Terrific discuss the drug-related crime in his city and the nature of faith. The Spectre interrupts the two and drops to the floor where he cries souls from his ethereal body—as he has focused on redemption rather than vengeance, his grip on damned souls has loosened and Spirit King reappears.
