"Blood War": Metron invades Tigra's private quarters while she's changing and questions why she lied to Orion about his heritage, saying he wasn't the true son prophesized to kill Darkseid. Tigra's reason

Jack Kirby's Fourth World #17 is an issue of the series Jack Kirby's Fourth World (Volume 1) with a cover date of July, 1998.

Synopsis for "Blood War"

Metron invades Tigra's private quarters while she's changing and questions why she lied to Orion about his heritage, saying he wasn't the true son prophesized to kill Darkseid. Tigra's reasonings and motives are simple: to destroy her husband, Darkseid.

On New Genesis' pole, inside Valkyra's fortress, Orion senses the tremor caused by Kalibak's actions on Apokolips, so he prepares to fight his half-brother.

The origin of Orion's concern comes from a massive weapon of destruction Kalibak plans to use to atomize the Source Wall to tap its infinite power and destroy Darkseid, seizing Apokolips for himself. Suddenly, Orion attacks Kalibak's stronghold and fights hordes of Parademons. Kalibak confronts him, and the two engage in a brutal battle that calls the Black Racer's attention, ready to claim a life.

Meanwhile, Metron tells Valkyra that she has an important role to take in current events and that the moment is getting near. She accepts her destiny, albeit with sadness, and prepares her battle armor.

The battle between Orion and Kalibak rages on, with Kalibak growing increasingly powerful. Elsewhere, Valkyra meets with Tigra, who exposes her schemes of manipulating Kalibak and Orion's beliefs to fit her motives. She knows Orion always held back when fighting Darkseid because he didn't want to fulfill the prophecy, so Tigra lied to him about his true heritage to make him more determined to kill Darkseid. And on the other hand, if Kalibak believes himself the only heir, he will claim the right to battle his father right away. The victor of the current fight is of no concern for her.

Kalibak gets ready to deal the final blow against Orion, but he sees the Black Racer coming at him. Kalibak lifts Orion up for the Racer to take his life. But Valkyra jumps in the middle, placing herself in the way of the Black Racer's spike and sacrificing herself for her beloved.

In New Genesis, the Forever People sense the death of a god, and Vykin knows it's his mother. Vykin knew it would happen because Valkyra warned him not to intervene, for this will set the stage for Armageddon.
