Jakob was a ghastly metahuman mercenary.
History
Jakob was hired by New York crime duo the Pierce brothers when they found themselves facing the threat of two Nightwings - one Dick Grayson, one a resurrected Jason Todd who was slaying criminals while dressed as Dick's alter-ego. Jakob analysed the differences between the two via their actions and movements and, deducing they had a personal connection, opted to catch the less heroic one as bait. He soon found Jason atop a building where, after introducing himself and surprising Jason with knowledge of his identity, he transformed and swallowed him up.[1]
Jakob delivered him as promised and sure enough Dick and Cheyenne Freemont attempted a rescue soon after. Encountering them outside the brothers' hideout, Jakob showed the heroes his 'handiwork' - Jason and several others trapped in the viscous pods he formed around swallowed victims - before transforming and doing battle. Although a formidable foe Jakob met his end after swallowing Cheyenne, who used her powers to blow him apart from the inside.[2]
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Unique Physiology: Jakob could transform into a large, monstrous tentacled creature. In this form he could swallow victims and, in either form, transport them while they were encased in a viscous, fluid-filled pod. The pods hardened 'to the consistency of industrial epoxy' and suffocated the victims after 24 hours. Disturbingly, the fluids inside his pods had the grim ability to grant similar shapeshifting powers to his victims if they swallowed some.[3]

Abilities
- Body Reading Ability: Jakob could determine one's actions and even moral alignment and personal connections simply by observing them in battle.
Weaknesses
While seemingly impossible to injure externally, Jakob was able to be destroyed from the inside if his intended victim had enough power.
