James Gordon is the Captain of the Gotham City Police Department. Together with the caped crusader Batman, he was trying to stop the Holiday murders and bring the mob boss Carmine Falcone to justice.

At some point, James Gordon was promoted to police Captain of the Gotham City Police Department, due to his partnership with the vigilante known as the Batman. On a Halloween night, he was preparing to go out with his family, even giving his daughter his police badge as a part of her costume. Unfortunately though, duty called him as he saw the Bat-Signal shinning at the sky. He later met Batman and the district attorney Harvey Dent on the roof of the Gcpd and informed them that Johnny Viti had been murdered. After calming Dent down, he proposed an alliance between the three in order to take Carmine Falcone down, whom they suspected was responsible for Viti‘s death. A few nights after Dent had been attacked and nearly killed by Mickey Chen, an accomplice of Falcone, Gordon and Batman hunted him down and tried to interrogate him, though without success. On his way home, he encountered Harvey Dent, who wanted to take revenge on Falcone. Jim convinced him to not attack Falcone by giving Harvey his gun in order to keep his wife save. On Thanksgiving, Chen was murdered too and Gordon and Batman decided to pay a visit to the inmates of Arkham Asylum, where they encountered the criminal Julian Day known as Calendar Man. As he tried to bring make them release him, he made them realize that the Joker was no longer held captive. They tried to find him but were unable to do so. On New Year's Eve, Jim and his wife were present at a parade in the city, where the Joker attacked them by trying to gas them from a plane, though Batman stopped him. Later, after Falcones son Alberto was murdered, Gordon, Batman and Harvey met and decided that they now had to protect Falcone instead of taking him down.
