Jarvis Pennyworth was the butler to Gotham City's prestigious Wayne Family in the mid-20th Century.
History
Jarvis' father had previously been the Waynes' butler. Jarvis married a stage actress who bore him a son named Alfred. Mrs. Pennyworth left her husband and returned to the stage in their native England. A grown Alfred later joined her. Jarvis Pennyworth died a short time before his employers Thomas and Martha Wayne, prompting Alfred to return to Wayne Manor as the new Wayne butler.
Notes
- Jarvis was created by Don C. Cameron, first appearing in Batman #16. However, the New Earth version of Jarvis first appeared in Batman Annual #13 by Kevin Dooley and Malcolm Jones III.
- The New Earth incarnation of this character is never actually called Jarvis in Batman Annual #13. The DC Database is choosing to include him under this conjectural title in order to chronicle his existence.
