King Jefferson's last words to Constantine src

Jefferson Pierce was the ruler of the Kingdom of Storms and main political rival of the House of El.

On the day that Jor-El and Lara came to Earth, a peasant boy in the Kingdom of Storms named John Constantine gave a prophecy of demons in the form of men who would spell doom for the world. King Jefferson ordered the prophecy recorded and took Constantine into his service.

Nineteen years later, the Kryptonians were the rulers of the neighboring country and everyone within their borders who possessed magical talent was locked away without trial.[1] This was of particular concern to Jefferson as all members of the Pierce family possessed magical power over storms. Jefferson aligned with the Green Man to kill the Els, and hired an archer named Oliver to assassinate Jor-El with a magic arrow created by the Green Man. The plan was successful but Constantine warned him he would anger the Els.

That night, the Pierce's castle was attacked by what appeared to be Jor-El's daughter Zala, but was in fact a White Martian assuming her form. "Zala" murdered Jefferson's son Jacob, supposedly in retaliation for her father's death. Jefferson blasted her with his lightning but she was unharmed and flew away.[2]

After the murder of his son Jefferson went to Amazonia to speak with Queen Hippolyta about their standing alliance. Per the rules of Amazonia he was not allowed to step foot on the island as he was male so they held the meeting aboard Jefferson's ship. He broke the news that his son was murdered which Diana, who was Zala's lover, could not believe. As Jefferson had hoped, Diana stormed out and defected to join Zala, meaning that the Els' biggest supporter was no longer able to influence the Amazon court.

As the meeting concluded Hippolyta gave Jefferson her word that Amazonia would stand beside the Kingdom of Storms if it came to war with the Els. On his return trip, a Martian disguised as Zala ambushed his boat and tore through it after a short battle, which ended with her stabbing Jefferson through the heart with a piece of broken wood. As he lay dying he told Constantine that his daughter Anissa would succeed him as Queen and rule the Kingdom of Storms, asking for Constantine to help guide her.[3]
