Jingu Bang, sometimes known as Ruyi Jingu Bang, is an ancient magical iron battle staff wielded by the Monkey King, and later his clone the Monkey Prince.

History

The Monkey King stole Jingu Bang from Ao Guang, the Dragon King of the East. In the ensuing fight a splinter of it got lodged in the head of one of Ao Guang's guards. The original Jingu Bang, along with the Monkey King, disappeared into the Phantom Zone after Darkseid invaded the Heavenly Realm.

Hundreds of years later many of Ao Guang's former subjects, including the guardsman with the splinter in his head, were living in a district of Atlantis known as "Dragontown". When the Monkey King's clone Marcus Shugel-Shen moved to nearby Amnesty Bay, the splinter reacted to his presence by growing into a giant pillar of iron.[1] Marcus and his mentor Shifu Pigsy came to Atlantis to claim the staff, but it initially refused to recognise Marcus as its rightful master.[2] Marcus proved himself worthy of Jingu Bang by charging unarmed into a hopeless fight against Silver Horn King to rescue Aquaman.[3]

Jingu Bang can change shape, multiply itself, exorcise demons, shrink to the size of a toothpick or grow into a great pillar larger than the Earth. It has a will of its own and can refuse to allow anyone it deems unworthy to wield it.

Notes
