Jiv Reduu was a member of the R.E.C.R.U.I.T.S.

Jiv Reduu came from the planet Bummb'l, where all natives are born with the ability to swell their bodies into balloon like forms. When the L.E.G.I.O.N. was formed, the planet held a competition to select a planetary representative to join. Jiv Reduu won this championship and enrolled in the L.E.G.I.O.N. academy.

He was recuited into the R.E.C.R.U.I.T.S. along with Amon Hakk, Borb Borbb, Darius, Davroth Catto, Ig'nea, Bertron Diib, Lydea Mallor and Zena Moonstruk. Reduu was, however, rejected by Strata, who saw little use for his unusual power.[1]

Reduu then began murdering Strata's other graduates in revenge. It took some time for these murders to come to the core team's attention, mostly due to Chief Horgath's preference to solve the case himself. Unfortunately for Reduu, the former core member Garv had recently resigned from the L.E.G.I.O.N. and was investigating the case himself, under the guise of the Masked Avenger.

Eventually Strata deduced the killer's identity and with Garv cornered Reduu. In one final effort to kill Strata, Reduu found himself bouncing out of control and landed on the end of a spear, killing him.[2]

  • Inflatable Body: Jiv Reduu is a Bummb'l whose species has power to inflate their entire body into a solid spherical shape like a ball. While in this form, he can direct and deflect his body off solid surfaces with little to no damage to his physical person.

  • As with many members of this incarnation of L.E.G.I.O.N., Jiv Reduu is modeled after a character from the Legion of Super-Heroes. Jiv Reduu has the powers of and is a reference to Bouncing Boy.
  • The name of Reduu's home planet, Bummb'l, is most likely a reference to a line from the popular holiday special, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer", in which the character Yukon Cornelius explains that "Bumbles bounce!". Reduu himself exclaims "Bummb'ls bounce!" in L.E.G.I.O.N. #56.
