Joe Chill was a robber who murdered Thomas and Martha Wayne for Martha's pearl necklace, leaving their son Bruce an orphan.

History

After committing the murders, Chill threw his gun on the ground and began searching for Martha's pearls that had rolled off. Bruce, grief stricken, took Chill's gun and murdered him, beginning his career as a violent vigilante.
