John Astin (b. March 30, 1930) is an American actor who portrayed the Riddler for the second season of the series Batman after the original actor, Frank Gorshin, left the show due to salary disputes.
Astin played the character for the episodes "Batman's Anniversary" and "A Riddling Controversy", before Gorshin was persuaded to return to the series for the third season episode "Ring Around the Riddler".
He is best known for his role as Gomez Addams in the 1960s television series The Addams Family. He is the adoptive father of actor Sean Astin.
