Notes
- This issue is set after the rebirth of Creation. In the unknotted timeline of Earth 0, the This Sceptred Isle storyline now takes place around late 2020, some time after the restoration of Prime Earth.
- The first scene is a flashforward to the events of issue #11.
- John's flashback in St. Augustine occurs seventeen days after the epilogue of John Constantine: Hellblazer #12, the events of which are referenced throughout the issue; the remainder of the story takes place a few weeks later.
- John and Morpheus' flashback retells events from Sandman (Volume 2) #3. This story reveals that, in the Post-Flashpoint continuity, those events have been altered: John actually lied to Morpheus, having previously stolen several grains of dream sand without informing him.
- In the Pre-Flashpoint continuity, those events took place in 1989, following Morpheus' escape from Wych Cross. After the Flashpoint, the Silver Age events — including Crisis on Infinite Earths — were shifted to the early 21st Century, placing the following Modern Age events around the mid-2000s.
- This issue is collected in John Constantine: Hellblazer - Dead in America.
Trivia
- Nat and Noah Ikumelo were first introduced in John Constantine: Hellblazer (Volume 1).
- Dream's line, "any of us are just palimpsests of antique tale", is an inside joke referencing how the entire Sandman/Vertigo continuity was merged into the Prime Earth continuity during the events of Flashpoint.
- The cats that appear behind Dream reference Morpheus, the former Dream King, who was also known as the "Cat of Dreams".
- Constantine quotes The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot.
