History
Before Futures End
Having stolen the Helmet of Nabu, the helm threatened him but John knew without a host, its power was minimal. Nabu would begin tempting him to bear the helm by claiming he can go into the past and change all of his mistakes. When John makes contact with the helm, Nabu attempts to force the helm upon Constantine as his human host but is pulled into an ancient spell known as the "Auditorium of Anubis", a spell which traps a being in one's heart and grants an audience with Anubis with the only way out is a challenged issued by the person. With Anubis as a judge, John challenges Nabu to name a time he cared about something other than himself.
Although Nabu initially decried his claims as a trick and sham while pointing out his previous heroic deeds, John manages to "prove" he doesn't care when he points out his attempt at calling upon other hosts and his carelessness with them as well as Khalid's fate. He is then killed by "Anubis", who is later revealed to be an Ifrit demon posing as Anubis and in which John owed a debt to. With Nabu gone, Constantine's deal to the demon made him the new intelligence behind the helm, suggesting he impersonate Nabu but keep being altruistic else he will come back to deal with it.[2]
5 years from now
