John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States from 1961 until his assassination near the end of his third year in office.
History
In November 1963, a time-displaced Superman made a promise to Kennedy that he would make it so that future generations wouldn't have to fight for a better world. Following Kennedy's death, after returning to his own time, Superman would seek to fufill his promise with the creation of the Justice League.
However, many years later, the League had not achieved this goal, and thus was partially viewed as a failure by Superman. To better fufill his promise, Superman formed a new team: the Authority.[1]
