Quote1 So we just turn away, is that it? Just thrown up our hands and let the scum take over? Maybe you're content to do that. I'm not. Quote2
John Flint src

John Flint was a police lieutenant who joined the Darkstars under Ferrin Colos' supervision.

Origin

Detective Flint investigated the apparition of a new drug called "Loco," which was highly addictive and very common among the homeless in Dallas. His investigation led him to a warehouse, and he quickly organized a raid. His headstrong and overzealous attitude almost got him killed, because the occupants of the building were aliens who fought them off. During the raid, he met the Darkstar Ferrin Colos, and together, as well with the help of Mo Douglas, they disbanded the drug ring.[1]

After their success, Ferrin Colos recruited Flint and Douglas as his deputies, and they received their respective suits. Their next mission was to apprehend the escaped Evil Star. During their pursuit, despite Colos ordering his deputies to stand down and wait, Flint rushed into the action, putting himself and his companions in danger. Despite their disagreement, they successfully apprehended Evil Star and put him in custody again.[2]

Fall From Grace

John kept showing signs of overzealous behavior, almost ruining another Darkstar operation. This time, he learned about the kidnapping of Carla White, which led him to another operative of the same Syndicate that ran the "Loco" drug ring. During this raid, John rushed into the action without waiting for Colos' orders. Even though the operation was successful and the kidnapped slaves were saved, John's rushing in almost caused the slavers to escape. He even engaged in combat with Hawkman and Hawkgirl, mistaking them with the aliens.[3] John couldn't help but feel he messed up, so, the next day, he got ahead of Ferrin Colos and presented his resignation, returning his Exo-Suit to Colos.[4]

Annihilator 171

John's attention returned to the police force, catching drug dealers on the streets of Dallas. However, his reputation preceded him, and he became the next target of the Syndicate. They kidnapped John and submitted him through the Annihilator 171 procedure, which affected his mind and physiology.[5] Luring Ferrin Colos into a trap, the Syndicate used Flint and transformed him into a brute programmed to kill the Darkstar.[6] Possessor of great strength and impregnable skin, Flint fought Colos relentlessly. However, Colos managed to reach to his conscience and bring his memories back, snapping out of the Syndicate's control.[7] Still, John stayed on that mutated state, and Colos tried his best to find a cure for his friend.[8] John finally found a partial cure to his mutation in S.T.A.R. Labs, where they gave him a harness that keeps the mutation at bay.[9]
