After all, my old man was a nightmare. He was an abusive jerk. Put my mom in the hospital... and me on the road to becoming a criminal.
Jon Carter was the father of Booster Gold.
History
He was an abusive husband, whose actions frequently landed his wife in the hospital. Jon was in debt with a gambling ring, with one failed payment resulting in a scar and dead eye at the right side of his face. He forced his son, who was a star college football player, to throw games in order to pay his debts.
He eventually allowed himself to be placed in federal prison as a sort of protective custody. When his son was also thrown in prison, he tried to take the opportunity to disappear, leaving his son the target to those Jon owed. He didn't get far; however, as a time-displaced Superman knocked out Jon and freed Michael.[1]
Notes
- Jon Carter was created by Dan Jurgens, Geoff Johns, and Jeff Katz, first appearing in Booster Gold (Volume 2) #1. However, in the rebooted Prime Earth continuity his first appearance as part of the DC Universe is in Jurgens' New 52 Action Comics series.
