Jonathan Cheval was an enemy of Hawkman. His primary weapon is his alias: the Monocle.

History

Jonathan Cheval was an honest businessman skilled in the field of grinding and polishing lenses. Financial trouble ruined his business, and Cheval became a criminal using lens based weapons. Cheval became an adversary of Hawkman and the Justice Society of America. The Monocle was also one of the villains offered membership to Ultra-Humanite's Secret Society of Super Villains. During the Identity Crisis he allied himself with Merlyn, and Deadshot. During their confrontation with the Justice League of America, Monocle was the first to fall after he was struck in the head by Hawkman's mace. After evading arrest, Monocle was apparently killed by Kate Spencer, the most recent Manhunter, during an assassination attempt on the Shadow Thief. although he was later revealed to have survived and was one of the villains that tried to assassinate the members of Secret Six.
