Doctor Jonathan Crane was a supervillain in Gotham City known as the Scarecrow.

Scarecrow specialized in developing weapons to induce fear in his victims, such as his fear toxin. One of Crane's colleugues was August Cartwright.

On one occasion, Scarecrow attempted to hack into the internal computers that operated the trains of Gotham City. This incident led to all of the trains in Gotham having an independent analogue system.[1]

Scarecrow was eventually captured, presumably by the Batman; and was sent to Arkham Asylum, where he was designated as patient #856220. All of Scarecrow's belongings, including a vial of his fear toxin, was placed in an evidence room at Arkham.

When Doctor Destiny altered reality, which caused Oliver Queen and Barry Allen to exchange the roles of Green Arrow and the Flash, at one point; Oliver (as the Flash) fought Nora Fries, trying to hit her with a lightning bolt, but instead he hit the Scarecrow's fear toxin, which caused him and Barry to hallucinate their worst fears.[2]
