Joseph Garrick was the father of the Flash (Jay Garrick).

Joseph Garrick worked on the assembly line at Keystone Motors. He was devoted to his son Jay and spent as much time as he could with him and other kids in the neighborhood playing stickball. He was killed in action in World War I when Jay was ten years old. Joseph's doughboy helmet would later inspire his son's costume when he became the first Flash.[1]
