Tempest was a member of the League of Supermen in a possible future.

One of many brave young citizens to join the League of Supermen, Juan LaPlaya was fitted with a special cyber-collar to replicate Superman's super-breath abilities. However, on his first mission, he and the other Leaguers discovered what appeared to be a plot to corrupt the Superman hologram that guided their operations, resulting in the hologram's Gauntlet project to be turned from an orbital defense system into an array of menacing satellites.

Further investigation revealed that the hologram itself had been corrupted, and thus LaPlaya and the other members of the League worked together to break into the hologram's core and shut it down.

Despite many traps, the League prevailed, and the hologram's power source, a chunk of Kryptonite, was destroyed. As the hologram powered down, it revealed that it had planted all the evidence of its own corruption, as it had become aware that its programming was degrading, and feared that if it continued to run, it would develop a god complex, but was unable to shut itself down due to its programming, and thus had created the ruse to get the Leaguers to destroy it.

Following the destruction of the hologram, LaPlaya was formally inducted into the League of Superman, under the codename Tempest.
