Julia Lavenza is a tutor living in Naples, Italy during the early 19th Century.
History
She kept closely in touch with Bruce Wayne by letter, and eventually moved near his home in Ingolstadt, Germany with her maidservant Martilina. On the road to Ingolstadt they were attacked by a highwayman who strangely knew her name. Bruce Wayne arrived in time to savagely beat the man and save her, forcing Julia to pull him off the assailant. They reported the incident to Burgermeister Gordon. Julia began living in dormitory housing at the local university while Bruce was busy with his experiments. Her goal was to console him and ease his troubled mind, but she grew increasingly frustrated with his emotionally distant behavior. Bruce suggested that she return to Naples while he was spending all his time in the lab, but Julia refused. One night during a lightning storm she pounded on his castle demanding entrance and he turned her away, insisting he could not protect her from his experiments. After this Bruce apologized and promised to take her out for meals, but then returned to being distant. One night while venting to Martilina about her problems Julia their home was attacked. A terrifying unknown creature, the Bat-Man, burst in and kidnapped her then ran off into the night. Martilina informed Bruce what happened and he rode out to find her. The Bat-Man, actually Bruce's resurrected father Thomas Wayne, took her to the laboratory of his killer Doctor Seltsam. Bruce had followed the trail to Seltsam and they fought until the building began to collapse. Julia awoke from being knocked out just in time to escape the laboratory with Bruce. Bruce attempted to run back in and save his father but Julia and Bruce's manservant Alfredo pulled him back, saving his life. She held Bruce while they watched the Bat-Man and Seltsam die in the flames.[1]
