June Abar was the wife of Will Reeves, also secretly known as the first vigilante Hooded Justice. June was also the grandmother of Angela Abar, who would become a vigilante herself.
History
Childhood
June Abar was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1921, June was only a baby when her neighborhood was attacked by the KKK in an act of domestic terrorism. Though her family managed to escape the town, their truck was caught by white supremacists, who murdered them. The only people who survived the crash were June and the son of her parents' acquaintances named Will Reeves. Will, a young boy himself, swore to protect to June as he watched his hometown go up in flames.
Hooded Justice
Years later, as an adult, June and Will got married. Together, they had one son named Marcus.
Will became a police officer but was prejudiced for the color of his skin. With a tip from a fellow officer to beware "the Cyclops", June's husband desired to dismantle the white supremacy that constantly plagued his life. Will's investigation caused unwanted attention from a group of white supremacist officers, who ambushed him and almost lynched him before letting him go with a warning. After the fact, Will stopped a crime in progress, hiding his identity with a mask to avoid being unfairly judged again.
The next day, June pointed out that Will's masked heroism was noticed and had been reported on in the newspaper. Though she was hesitant to encourage him, June understood Will was filled with an insatiable rage and allowed him to continue pursuing vigilantism to hopefully get the justice he desired. She suggested to him, if he was to continue, he would need to paint his skin around the open eye holes so he would appear Caucasian due to the racial bias he would continue to receive if the public thought he was Black.
For awhile, June supported her husband, acting as his closest confidante. Eventually, his heroism caught the attention of Captain Metropolis, who assumed Reeves was actually Hooded Justice's assistant rather than the hero himself. Gardner told Reeves that he was building a team of heroes and to extend the invite to Hooded Justice. Later, June tried to dissuade her husband from joining the group, but he seriously considered it.
After her husband had an affair with Captain Metropolis, Reeves agreed to join the Minutemen, believing they were could help him in his goal to end the conspiracy of white supremacists he was following.
Reeve's career as Hooded Justice took a toll on his and June's marriage. When the Minutemen proved unproductive towards his goal, he became more violent in his methods and more paranoid with his family. One night, Will caught his son Marcus putting on Caucasian makeup like he wore for his disguise as Hooded Justice and violently tried to wash it off his son's face. June walked in on the incident and, fed up with Will's toxic behavior, left with their son, never to speak again.
Later Years
June raised Marcus alone until he was adult. When he old enough, Marcus told his mother that he wanted to become a soldier and serve in the Vietnam War. June didn't approve and told him, if he did, she would never speak to him again. When he enlisted, she kept her promise.
Years later, after Dr. Manhattan had won the war for the United States and made Vietnam the 51st state, Marcus, his wife, and his daughter Angela continued to live in Saigon. However, when Angela was a girl, Marcus and his wife were killed in a suicide bombing by a Vietnam freedom fighter.
Without any family to take her in, June was contacted to raise her granddaughter. She flew to Saigon and, for the first time, met Angela. The two talked, June explained their family history, but, as the two prepared to return to Tulsa, Oklahoma together, June collapsed of a heart attack getting into the taxi and died.
