Jupiter is the fifth planet from the star Sol at a distance of 5.203 A.U.. It is 89,317 miles in diameter. Its day equals 0.41 Earth days and its year equals 11.86 Earth years.

Jupiter is a gas giant with no solid surface. The temperature at Jupiter's cloud tops is -235 (F, its gravity is 2.34 that of Earth, and its magnetic field is 20,000 times that of Earth. It has a narrow ring and many moons.

The four largest moons are larger than the planet Pluto.

History

Earth-Two

In 1942, Starman, Ted Knight, was rocketed to Jupiter, where he overcame an extinction-level threat to the native Jovians. These metal creatures were being slowly eaten away by microbes, originating in the Great Red Spot of Jupiter. With some Jovian help, Starman constructed a giant replica of his Gravity Rod, then used this device to hurl the Red Spot and the microbes into space. He then harnessed the power of the towering instrument to hurl himself back to Earth.[1]

  • The German rocket carrying Starman to Jupiter crossed an inter-dimensional border along the way, and his adventure actually took place on the Jupiter of another universe (not the Jupiter of the Earth-Two universe).[2]

In 1945, Jupiter was the source of a living metallic spacecraft, filled with tiny robot-like beings, all of which had the power to consume other metals. This spacecraft was dealt with by the Justice Society.[3]

Earth-S

At least part of Jupiter resembles a prehistoric Earth with large dinosaurs, roaring mammoths and a race of "primitive" cave-dwelling Jovians led by a Chief, who the Marvel Family teach basic English phonics and alphabet. [4]

Later, a seemingly utopic people with advanced weaponry and squat bodies would apparently evolve from or subsequent to this over the course of years, building large monumental cities and rocket ships for defense and travel. When Living Fireballs from Beyond Known Space invaded Jupiter, these "Jupiterians" left en masse to Earth as refugees until the invaders were destroyed. [5]

New Earth

The Jupiter colonies were established on Jupiter's larger moons.[citation needed]

Manhattan terraforms Europa

In 1985, Doctor Manhattan came to Jupiter and, on its moon of Europa, created a luscious paradise where he stayed, fascinated, for twenty years on Earth, at which time he became bored and returned to his home. A few months later, Manhattan sent Adrian Veidt to live there, and while he was happy at first, he began to go mad with loneliness and escaped in 2017.
