Synopsis for "Part: 18 - Old Friends"
Many years ago, Captain Atom and Power Girl were JLI members and friends. Now, Power Girl is trying to pummel him. In the beginning, Captain Atom thinks Kara believes him guilty of Magog's murder, but he gets frightened when he realizes Maxwell Lord has mind-controlled her into believing he is her cousin gone bad. Knowing he needs help, he shoots a flare. His call for help is seen by the JLI.
Meanwhile, Power Girl ignores Captain Atom's words and starts beating him. Captain Atom is worried, since if she thinks she's fighting an evil Superman she won't hold back and will be too emotional to listen to reason.
The JLI arrive and get Power girl off Captain Atom. Fire guesses she isn't being exactly mind-controlled but influenced into believing Atom is an evil Superman... and Supergirl, Green Lantern, Batman and Starfire have just joined him.
Meanwhile, Maxwell Lord and Professor Ivo are running tests on Blue Beetle, whom they have kidnapped. Beetle remembers Max and his crimes, and Max reveals his mind-wipe slips when one is in intense pain, although it feeds off other minds' psychic energy. Unfortunately he can't perform a world-mass mind-wipe again because his brain would not endure the strain.
Back on Tokyo, an out-of-control Power Girl is wiping the JLI out. They can't stop her or hurt her until Booster Gold comes up with the idea to use her super-hearing against her. Rocket Red fires his sonic blasters, hurting Power Girl. The pain and Atom's words manage to get through her, and Kara remembers Lord. She decides to join the team in order to stop him.
