Justice League America #26 is an issue of the series Justice League America (Volume 1) with a cover date of May, 1989.

Synopsis for "Slice and Dice!" or "There's Something Very Wrong with the Blue Beetle!"

Oberon is cranky and is storming throughout the embassy looking for something to complain about. First, he gets into a brief altercation with Guy Gardner, and then blows up at Blue Beetle for falling asleep on monitor duty.

A short time later, Blue Beetle rises from his chair, goes into the kitchen to fetch a large steak knife and proceeds to attack Oberon with it. He stabs Oberon through the chest, then races outside.

Guy Gardner springs into action and tries to figure out what could have turned Blue Beetle into a ruthless would-be killer. He discovers that Blue Beetle is hunting down Maxwell Lord, with the intent of killing him.

Beetle chases Max through the streets of New York, but Max's life is spared due to the timely arrival of the Huntress and Batman. The Huntress manages to disable Blue Beetle long enough for Batman to finish him off. They both come to realize that the Justice League's old foe, the Queen Bee, is responsible for Beetle's mania.

Notes

  • This is the first issue of the series under the title Justice League America (note the absence of the word "of" as used by previous incarnations). It will maintain this title throughout the remainder of the series. Prior to this issue, the title was formerly known as Justice League International. Justice League America's companion series, Justice League Europe (Volume 1), will begin using the Justice League International title beginning with issue #51 of that series.

Trivia

  • During a fight scene, the Huntress eludes Batman's notice, and darts off into the shadows. When he spins around to find her, Batman quips, "Now I know how Jim Gordon feels". This is a reference to the numerous times that Batman has left Commissioner James Gordon talking to himself on the roof of Gotham City Police Headquarters.
