Synopsis for "The Last Age of Magic, Chapter 2"
In a flashback of her childhood, a twelve-years old Diana remembers being in Themyscira, watching a forbidden rituals performed by amazon witches to summon Hecate. Astonished and scared, Diana wanted to leave but couldn't and when Hecate appeared, the deity asked the witches to take her. Captured, she was marked by Hecate herself.
Back in the present, Diana and the others of her team, now joined by Zatanna and Swamp Thing, end their battle with a victory against the mutated corpses of several magician previously killed by the dysfunctions magic is suffering. Diana is enraged and afraid, and takes her anger towards Zatanna, asking why she suddenly reconsidered her proposal of uniting against a common, and still mysterious, enemy. Thanks to Alec, things calm down with Diana apologizing and confessing her feelings: Zatanna explains her about an apocalyptic vision her father sent her by means of the Tree of Wonder, regarding forces known as The Otherkind and its leader, the Upside-Down Man, coming to Earth to take magic back to its original place.
The team agrees that the only man that could help them have a clear vision of what's happening is Kent Nelson, the current Doctor Fate, and in particular they should directly speak with his master, the Lord of Order Nabu. Now in Salem in front of the Tower of Fate, the team asks the Doctor to receive them, with their request being granted. Alec though decides to stay behind, as he needs to check on the Tree of Wonder nearby. The truth is that he wanted to confront John Constantine: the Hellblazer came to him to tell him he knows the truth about him, the fact he will soon abandon Earth to join the Parliament of Trees giving the responsibility of protector of the Green to someone different. Constantine tells him he understood that his final mission is to comprehend and resolve the enigma of the Wonder Tree.
Meanwhile, the team is welcomed by Kent Nelson who initially is disturbed by the choice of Zatanna about joining non-magical creatures to handle the problem. Still, as both the sorceress and Diana respect Order, they are welcomed to meet Nabu, while this it's not true for Detective Chimp and Kirk Langstrom, described at too chaotic for Nabu to deal with. While Diana, Zatanna and the Doctor are away, Bobo and Kirk accidentally break a jar freeing a trapped Khalid Nassour, who tells them that Kent is not in control anymore and that Nabu himself is opening the doors to the Otherkind and the Upside-Down Man. But they cannot reveal this dark truth to Diana and Zatanna, who discover it right in front of Nabu, revealing them that Order requires magic to go away from Earth. After that, Diana finds herself watching the distorted image of the Upside-Down Man, waking up in her that same terror she felt back in Themyscira with her experience with Hecate.
