I don't understand... Zatanna, what's happening to me? It's as if my veins are filling up with burning light... I can feel so much power. I've never felt like this before.
Justice League Dark (Volume 2) #3 is an issue of the series Justice League Dark (Volume 2) with a cover date of November, 2018. It was published on September 26, 2018.
Synopsis for "The Last Age of Magic, Conclusion"
Zatanna remembers the teaching of her father, and what he always explained her: for her family, the backward words are just one of the many tricks that gives magic order, and restrains them to see what they are doing. That way of speaking is just like wands or demon blood, artifacts to hide them from the eyes of those who live in the darkness.
Zatanna realizes those are the monsters lurking out of the door Nabu opened, coming down thanks to the Tree of Wonder. And their leader, the Upside-Down Man, is a predator being of pure magic: he explains them that they observed humanity from behind the veil, seeing how mundane their world was and having to bear the fact their ancestors stole magic from their dimension to make Earth a little wilder. But as mere mortals, soon they had to create ordered system to harness that magic and the Otherkind is here to take everything back to chaos, to release magic in its real and pure form, than to consume it taking it back to its original source.
Any member of the team is unable to contrast him: Detective Chimp is killed, Swamp Thing starts to decay and even an almost uncontrollable sign launched by Constantine is useless, with the Upside-Down Man depriving John of its demon blood. But the monster detects in Diana a power unknown to him, a type of magic which is not his: it's the sign of Hecate that wakes up and pervades Wonder Woman with a powerful light and enormous power. Diana banishes the monster away and restores the damage the he made after utilizing her new power in the form of a formula Zatanna gave to her. The problem is just delayed, but as Diana falls exhausted, the team knows they must discover what's behind this new power, as it could be the only way to oppose the terrible threat of the Otherkind.
