Synopsis for "Come Back to Me, Part One"

Steve and Diana are spending time on the beach in Maryland's Ocean City when he tells her about his maiden test flight of an experiment aircraft from Washington, D.C. to Puerto Rico before both go for a swim into the ocean. Back at Etta's new home, Steve tells her not to worry since he will have two other pilots, who are the best at flying, to accompany him. As the key kiss goodbye, Etta enters and assumes them to be burglars before realizing who they are. While later helping Etta move her stuff into her home, she learns about a wildfire in the nature reserve of Park County in Montana, due to which many firefighters have been trapped.

Wonder Woman flies away to help those trapped in the fire and promises to take care of herself. At Park County, Lieutenant Lee tells other firefighters that they need a path out of the fire but all helicopters are grounded and notices the animals in the safe zone with them, learning they're trapped as well. As they wonder what to do, they notice Wonder Woman has arrived to help them and she tells them that there is a path to the south for escape. Since many firefighters are injured, she convinces the animals to help them and tells them to follow her.

Back at the base camp, as Captain Dillon comforts Lee's wife Kate after failing to contact him, he notices the animals coming out of the forest with the firefighters on their backs. Diana departs to see if she can help further, but requests Kate to treat the animals like she would treat the other firefighters and she promises she will. On the next morning, the rescued firefighters tell their compatriots about how they were rescued by Wonder Woman who refuse to believe them. Suddenly however, they notice her entering the bar and asking for the drink they promised her earlier.

Returning to Etta later on, she learns that Steve has gone missing along with other pilots over the Atlantic Ocean and the navy, the air force as well as the coast guard are unable to track them down. She states that her invisible plane has been readied to fly and suggests they both go looking, to which Diana agrees.

Synopsis for "Justice League, Part Three"

This story is reprinted from Justice League (Volume 2) #3.

In Washington D.C., military personnel, including Colonel Steve Trevor, are observing TV reports of crowds protesting against Wonder Woman because she is a pagan, and because she, like the other super-powered humans, is perceived as dangerous. Apparently, Diana had previously been with them at their office in the Pentagon, and Trevor asks where she has gone. He is told that she was watching the TV news; and when she spotted a report about a winged monster terrorizing people in downtown D.C., she took off. Efforts to detain her were futile because of her raw power.

Wonder Woman is walking in D.C. as a crowd gathers and gapes at her. The crowd remains silent out of fear, until a young girl seems unafraid and introduces herself. Wonder Woman and her new friend enjoy an ice-cream break together. Steve Trevor arrives and tries to talk Diana into returning with him to the Pentagon. Diana resists, saying that she wants to fight the forces of darkness that are lurking nearby.

Suddenly they are startled to see one of Darkseid's minions, making the same pinging sound as before. Several of the aliens swoop down to attack Wonder Woman. Diana is pleased that the battle has come to her, and beams with excitement.

At S.T.A.R. Labs in Detroit, the winged monsters are terrorizing the workers. One of the monsters snatches and abducts Professor Ivo. Dr. Silas Stone is cradling his son Vic, who was seriously hurt in the explosion last issue and appears to be near death. Dr. Stone defiantly says that he once watched his wife die, and will not let his son die too.

In Metropolis, at the site of the abandoned Daily Planet printing press, we see lots and lots of the winged monsters causing more terror. We are told that portals are opening up across the world; and that the armies of demons are pouring out through the portals. Someone exclaims that this is "judgment day". Superman, Batman, Flash, and Green Lantern are fighting the monsters; but there are now so many of them. Flash, listening to radio broadcasts in his earpiece as he battles, indicates that the attacks are happening all over the world, and that the populace is blaming the super-heroes.

The heroes talk as they fight. Batman and Green Lantern continue to bicker. Flash is surprised to hear that Batman has no powers. Batman wants to step back and regroup because there are just too many of the monsters. He prefers having a strategy instead of just using brute force. Superman is having good success fighting many of the baddies at once, using a nearby 18-wheeler truck as a weapon to pulverize the monsters.

Back in Detroit, we follow Dr. Stone and his co-workers as they enter a secure medical room at S.T.A.R. Labs, carrying Victor as they go. Dr. Stone implores his son to hang on.

Green Lantern is amazed to see Superman swing an 18-wheeler "like a baseball bat". Superman and Batman observe that the winged monsters are abducting many people now; carrying them away rather than hurting them. Batman wonders what their motive is. Several of the monsters chant "For Darkseid" like before. As the nascent Justice League continues to battle the creatures, Wonder Woman joins the battle. She shouts "Back to Hades" as she barrels into the swarm of monsters, swinging her sword. The other heroes are impressed with her display of strength and fighting prowess. They seem to be impressed by her beauty as well.

In Detroit, Vic Stone, barely alive, goes into cardiac arrest as his father works feverishly to save him using experimental technology. As they activate nanites to help with the integration of the new bio-technology, Vic starts spouting binary code. Subsequently, we hear a message from Vic's machinery indicating that he is now online.

Wonder Woman explains that she followed the winged monsters, which led her to the other super-heroes. She saw their battle in progress, and decided to help. The winged monsters are circling above a body of water, and then start again making the pinging sounds, which usually indicates that an explosion or other dramatic event is imminent. A waterspout appears rather explosively, and then a large and mysterious object emerges from the ocean. The object appears to be a conveyance of some kind, like a spaceship or watercraft. But it may be something else entirely. The heroes wonder aloud what it is.

Suddenly Aquaman rises from the water, saying the monsters and their giant mysterious object were visible in the water as well. Aquaman wants to know which one of the heroes is in charge; and suggests that he would be a good choice.

Synopsis for "Lights Out"

This story is reprinted from The Flash (Volume 4) #3.

With all electrical power cut in both of the Gem Cities - Keystone City and Central City - by some kind of EMP, Flash rushes to think of a way to stop a plane from crashing down onto a highly trafficked bridge. Remembering how he had once vibrated through down through four floors accidentally when he drank some espresso, Barry speeds up the molecules of the entire plane to the point where it can pass safely through the bridge, and land in the river below.

Seeing that Dr. Guerrero's EMP failed to cause the havoc they were expecting, one of Mob Rule's number shoots him dead. She shooter explains that he is going to die sooner than the others, and having watched Guerrero fail to come up with a way to keep them all from dying for nearly a year, he feels that someone better must exist.

Captive to Mob Rule, Manuel Lago recalls how the military had provided him with regenerative capabilities, giving him back his hands. With this technology, Manuel would become the perfect agent. It had been Dr. Guerrero's research that helped him. Now, Mob Rule wants those hands back.

At Iron Heights Prison, Iris West finds herself faced with inmate Leonard Snart - Captain Cold. Iris clenches her fists and raises them in a self-defense position, threatening Leonard that if he came any closer, he would regret it. He makes fun of her brutality and aggression and refuses to comment about her story on the Flash, but he gives her a new headline. He and the Rogues have stepped up their game, and they intend to pay the Flash back in kind for bringing them to justice.

With the power out, millions of people in both of the Gem Cities are in trouble, and the Flash intends to help as many as he can. Rushing from the plane, he heads out, rescuing some children from a motionless carnival ride, saving some people from a falling elevator, returning some escaped animals to safety in the zoo, and helping local medics provide help to citizens.

Elsewhere, in the desert, Dr. Darwin Elias has tracked the energy signature of the EMP pulse to the Badlands, driving in an antique car without any electronics. Elias stops when he finds a military tank sitting in the middle of the desert, guarded by some thugs including Axel Walker. Elias explains that the tank bears the same energy signature as the EMP, and that he hopes to perform some tests on it. Instead, Axel turns the doctor over to Mob Rule, who hope to use Elias as the replacement for Dr. Guerrero.

At the Central City Police Headquarters, Captain Frye assigns his men to help out in Keystone, and keep a lid on the civil unrest brewing there. While the Captain speaks, Patty Spivot whispers to Barry that she has compiled a list of doctors involved in a military testing project called Bellator. When the Captain assigns a street that Patty recognizes from her list, she calls it for herself and drags Barry with her. However, without the ability to drive any police cruisers, the department has been forced to resort to travel via horseback.

As it turns out, Patty and Barry have taken the assignment for the region in which Dr. Guerrero was located. Coming upon a warehouse, the two of them sneak in hoping to question the doctor, but they are surprised to hear the voices of Mob Rule. They overhear that the doctor has been killed, and keeping out of sight, they decide to search for Manuel.

Before long, they find him, tied to a chair, with both hands severed. As they untie him, they are discovered, and Barry shouts for his companions to run. Once Manuel and Patty are clear of the warehouse, Barry closes the door behind them, locking himself inside with Mob Rule. Despite the fact that he is surrounded, Barry obviously has a plan. Despite the appearance of a plan, one of the clones fires a shot that goes straight through Barry's head, and his body slumps to the ground.

Synopsis for "The Trench, Part Three"

This story is reprinted from Aquaman (Volume 7) #3.

Arthur recalls his dad watching the sun rise from a pier. Shedding a tear, Tom wishes that Atlanna, Arthur's mother, could be here and see how much Arthur has grown. Arthur comes to his father and asks him why does he come to the pier every sunrise, and Tom replies that he wants to be there when his mother returns.

In the present, Aquaman and Mera continue fighting The Trench.[1] The largest of the pack screams in their strange language to "bring food home" and the Trench begin to retreat back into the ocean with several of the civilians from the shore. Aquaman and Mera wonder where are the Trench going and investigate the cocoon the Trench made. Aquaman opens it revealing a dog. A wounded Trench appears, but is quickly shot to death by local police. The military tries to take the body for study, but Aquaman and Mera take the body and leave.

Aquaman and Mera heads to a house in the coast, where a man named Stephen Shin lives. Aquaman tells Mera that Shin was a friend of his father's who taught him how to use his powers. He also mentions Shin attempted to kill Aquaman because he would not take him to Atlantis.

Entering Shin's house, Aquaman and Mera ask Shin to perform an autopsy on the Trench body they recovered and Shin reluctantly agrees. Shin deduces that the creature is a new type of sea lifeform that lives in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, out of the Trench. Shin wants to keep the body, believing it will help restore his credibility, but Aquaman won't let him. Desperate, Shin asks Aquaman where is Atlantis, but Aquaman simply leaves.

As Aquaman and Mera swim to the depths of the ocean to find the creatures's lair, Mera asks what will they do once they find the victims. Aquaman replies that they don't know what the creatures are yet. Mera believes that if the victims are food, then they must desperate for food and that they must be on the verge of extinction. Aquaman replies that if that's true, then the creatures are just trying to survive, just like they are.
