Synopsis for "Worlds End"

Avery and Doctor Multiverse are able to combine their powers to separate the possessed members of Justice League Incarnate from the Great Darkness. Meanwhile the Empty Hand, with his power boosted by the crack, defeats Darkseid and uses the crack to complete the Oblivion Machine, opening a rift in the Multiverse which the Great Darkness can use to enter the Multiverse. He and the Gentry cross over, and he dares Darkseid to follow and face the Great Darkness in person. Darkseid chases the Empty Hand through the rift and finds himself in a black void. The Darkness tells Darkseid that he is and has always been a puppet: while the Empty Hand is the right hand of the Darkness; Darkseid is the left hand, the fist.

Orion says they must destroy the Oblivion Machine. Grail initially tries to stop him, but realises that the power on the other side of the rift is too much even for Darkseid, and that their father is either dead or as good as such. Since the eldest son Kalibak has been driven mad by the Gentry and is unfit to rule, she declares Orion the new Lord of Apokolips and Darkseid's army acclaims him as their leader. Thunderer claims he can summon enough power to destroy Earth 7 and the rift, but Avery and Maya ask for a chance to save Barry Allen first. Superman agrees and he and Captain Carrot go with them through the rift, telling the others to destroy the portal and leave them behind if they have to.

They emerge in a pleasant suburb, where they are met by a child who Avery recognises as Wallace West. He takes them to his Uncle Barry, who claims not to recognise them or even the name "Superman". When Superman tries to grab Barry he punches him and runs off, saying he is where he belongs. Pariah appears and tells them they cannot be here, but promises each of them their own paradises. Doctor Multiverse is horrified when she looks at him with her Multivision and teleports the team away in a panic. Pariah smirks and says "Perfect".

On Earth 7, the portal has become too unstable and Aquawoman orders Thunderer to destroy it. Orion takes the forces of Apokolips through a Boom Tube to New Genesis to prepare a common defence against the Darkness. Thunderer destroys the planet and the House of Heroes flies off. The others teleport just outside and are brought on board. Doctor Multiverse tells them that Pariah is the voice of the Great Darkness and has been building a mighty army in the Bleed itself. Superman sets course for Earth 0, saying they need it's Justice League on their side.

Pariah meets with the Darkness and tells it that everything is going according to plan. The Darkness takes control of Darkseid and a host of other powerful villains.

Trivia

  • Doctor Multiverse saying that Pariah is the "voice" of the Great Darkness foreshadows the events of Dark Crisis: The Deadly Green #1.
  • The Dark Army members were previously mentioned as interested in harnessing the Great Darkness' power in Infinite Frontier #6.
  • While destroying the Oblivion Machine, Thunderer calls upon the power of the Worldstorm. This is a reference to the Marvel Comics, God Tempest, which empowers Mjolnir, the Hammer of Thor of which Thunderer is a pastiche.
