Synopsis for "Divided We Fall"

Following where "Panic In The Sky" left off in the conclusion of the Project Cadmus story arc, Brainiac reveals that he has implanted himself into Luthor in the form of a nanotech solution and is responsible for the curing of his cancer, not to mention giving him great physical strength. The merged Luthor/Brainiac being keeps the seven Justice League members at bay with a tentacled skull ship while making their escape to Project Cadmus, where they absorb the Dark Heart technology and use it to reshape themselves into a more advanced form, prepared to remake the universe in their image. The seven main Justice League members are unable to get help from the rest of the team, either up in the Watchtower or down in the Covenant, New Mexico disaster area, so they decide to take on Luthor/Brainiac alone. In their initial encounter with the merged beings, they confront robotic versions of the Justice Lords (including a Flash) which they end up destroying. Luthor/Brainiac knocks them all out except for the Flash, which he intends to kill just so he can have Superman fulfill the very thing his Justice Lord counterpart did on his Earth. However, Flash escapes and begins building up incredible speed to take apart the merged beings until only Luthor is left, but the incredible speed the Flash acquired pulls him out of this reality and into the place called the Speed Force. At first this makes Luthor think he has killed the Flash after all, and this enrages Superman to the point where he is tempted to use his heat vision to incinerate Luthor, but instead he relents, saying he isn't the same man as the Justice Lord Superman. Then the other six Justice League members help pull Flash back into this reality. A short distance away, Waller tells The President to call off the air strike against Brainiac.

The next day, Superman calls together a crowd in Metropolis, including the members of the expanded League, and announces that because of the team's arrogance, they are officially disbanding. However, Green Arrow speaks out against this decision, saying they have just saved the world yet again and that the world definitely needs the Justice League, whether with or without the main seven. Superman bows to the wisdom of the crowd and decides that instead of disbanding, they will make changes in how the Justice League is run to ensure that they will remain in touch with the people.
