Synopsis for the 1st Story
After receiving a distress signal from Batman, the Justice League has deployed a team consisting of Superman, Wonder Woman, Star Sapphire, Doctor Occult, Martian Manhunter, Blue Lighting and Mary Marvel to Monteverde, Costa Rica. The Leaguers arrive just in time to fight a horde of Parademons that had risen from a nearby forest. Batman emerges from the forest to help his friends and explains what happened to him. He and Blue Beetle were investigating a nest of alien eggs, which were hosting Parademons. They were attacked and when Batman woke up, Blue Beetle had already been taken.
The team separates. Batman, Superman, Sapphire and Lightning remain behind to fight the Parademons; Wonder Woman and Mary Marvel will go to destroy the nest, while Martian Manhunter and Occult attempt to find the missing children. Wonder Woman and Mary find the nest and attempt to carry in into outer space without endangering the forest but Mary is attacked by a Parademon. Jefferson, already finished with his fight, zaps the Parademon with an electric attack and the heroes attempt to find their friends.
Meanwhile, in Singapore, a criminal has grown to a towering size through mysterious circumstances. Police officers have surrounded him, but he doesn't feel threatened. Atom Smasher rushes through the crowds and explains to the cops that he wants to help. Suddenly, Ray Palmer and Ryan Choi jump from his shoulder and activate a device that hits the metahuman with a beam that returns him to his normal size and re-energizes Atom Smasher, who explains to the crowd that metahuman powers have been switched and spread out across the world thanks to the actions of Amanda Waller, but now, the Justice League is trying to recover those powers and take them back to where they belong. The Atoms believe that they aren't moving as fast as they hoped, which is why they need help from another Atom.
Back at the Watchtower, Mr. Terrific, Stargirl and Red Tornado attempt to find more information about the mysterious organization "Inferno", while Air Wave eavesdrops on them.
Deep into the forest, Dr. Occult says that he knew of J'onn back when he first arrived on Earth and J'onn believes that Occult could have exposed him. Occult replies that he would have only done that if Martian Manhunter was a threat. Instead, he used his powers to help people. J'onn was basically Superman before Superman even existed. Martian Manhunter confesses to Dr. Occult that he didn't took back all his powers after Waller had stolen them. He is missing his ocular powers and telepathy, which is why he wanted Occult to come with him.
J'onn and Occult find a cave that houses the missing children, and the Parademon standing guard over them. This Parademon is no mindless beast, but rather a rare specimen that conserved his sapience upon his birth. Darkseid sent him to Earth to oversee a nest of Parademons slumbering under its surface, but the Parademon resented such task, for he saw it as exile. That is why he kidnapped children, to offer them as tribute to Darkseid, who could train those children for his army. Even now, the Parademon hopes that such tribute will help him return home, until Martian Manhunter informs him that Darkseid is dead.
Outraged by such news, the Parademon attacks the heroes, but Martian Manhunter retaliates with ferocity of his own. He brutally attacks the Parademon, while berating the monster for using the kidnapping of children to rationalize his cruelty. The Justice Leaguers stop Martian Manhunter from inflicting more damage and J'onn, clearly ashamed of himself, is forced to leave. Although the children and Blue Beetle have been recovered, the Justice League shows concern for J'onn and sets out to find him.
