Justice League of America #171 is an issue of the series Justice League of America (Volume 1) with a cover date of October, 1979.

Synopsis for "The Murderer Among Us: Crisis Above Earth-One!"

At the annual joint meeting of the Justice League and Justice Society, JSA member Mr. Terrific, who had retired from crimefighting to become an English professor at Gateway University, reveals how he had resumed his costumed guise to track down an old enemy, the Spirit King, and how, as a result of that case, he now suspects one of his fellow super-heroes of being a traitor. But before he can say more, an explosion wracks the satellite, and the combined powers of the two teams are needed to effect repairs before their air escapes into space.

In the aftermath of the near disaster, Mr. Terrific is found dead in the wreckage. Zatanna attempts to reveal the cause of death with a spell, but is thrown into a coma for her efforts. The two Flashes search the satellite for a possible hidden killer to no avail, and the JLA diagnostic computer reports that Mr. Terrific was killed by strangulation, not by the explosion. The heroes' only possible conclusion is that one of their number is the murderer.
