Justice League of America (Volume 2) #30 is an issue of the series Justice League of America (Volume 2) with a cover date of April, 2009.
Synopsis for "Welcome to Sundown Town, Chapter 3: New Moon Rising"
The Justice League of America has managed to take down the Shadow Cabinet and restrain them, save Icon who is still outside the Watchtower with Superman. Hawkman tells the League that the Shadow Thief has tapped into an unknown source of immense power, which is similar to the dark energy of his suit, the Dimensiometer. He can now manipulate any shadow he touches and teleport and through shadows. Before he can explain further, Shadow Thief arrives, attacking the League.
Outside the Watchtower, Icon and Superman, who are both aliens, discuss the potential of the human race and Icon’s view of Superman as a potential once-in-a-generation leader. Before they can finish their conversation, Superman senses trouble in the Watchtower. He calls off their deal and bids Icon to return with him to help. They head back to the Watchtower and find that the League has freed the Shadow Cabinet to help fight the Shadow Thief.
Back in Metropolis at the home of Kimiyo Hoshi, Batman, Firestorm , Zatanna, and Black Lightning have defeated Starlight and Payback and restrained them. Suddenly, Rocket appears. Batman recognizes her as Icon’s partner. She asks him to release the Shadow Cabinet members. Batman and Rocket exchange posturing comments, but soon Kimiyo appears, clad in a new Doctor Light uniform.
Back in the Watchtower, the League and the Shadow Cabinet face off against shadow versions of themselves. Soon, Batman, Doctor Light, Rocket and the others appear. Batman reveals that he knows Hardware was the one who gave Kimiyo a new costume and that it has the ability to absorb solar energy and transfer it to her. Hardware admits that, at some point after she was captured by the Shadow Cabinet but before the League came to rescue her, Hardware explained to Kimiyo why they needed her help, and she agreed. Hardware then gives Kimiyo the remains of Doctor Light (Arthur Light) and she absorbs them, restoring her full powers. Kimiyo blasts Shadow Thief with light, weakening him, and Hawkman and Hawkgirl knock him out. However, it is revealed that Shadow Thief has animated the Moon’s shadow and sent it hurtling towards Earth. Unbeknownst to the heroes, who are still unaware that Shadow Thief is working with Starbreaker, if he can destroy Earth, the resultant destruction will feed Starbreaker and free him from the shadow dimension. Superman flies out and slams into the shadow Moon, destroying it, suffering severely himself from the impact. The heroes find him floating in space and return him to the Watchtower. When Superman recovers, he scolds the Shadow Cabinet for not appealing to them for help rather than launching their dangerous, secretive plan. Rocket reveals that the defeat of Shadow Thief has fixed the Shadowslide. The Shadow Cabinet escapes with no further explanation.
At the Shadow Cabinet's base in the Himalayas, the Shadowspire, Dharma reveals that he manipulated these events, despite Icon believing he was acting without Dharma’s knowledge. Icon warns him that the League now knows of their existence and says Batman will never stop searching for them. However, Dharma has had a vision of Batman’s death and is unconcerned.
