Quote1 Ms. Lane, the truth is, I'm still piecing together who I am and what I can do. But at the end of the day, I'm here to protect the people of Metropolis. That's what matters. Quote2

Superman (born Kal-El, legally Clark Kent) is a powerful, friendly, and awkward Kryptonian superhero who protects Earth, and acts as a reporter for the Daily Planet in his civilian identity. He is a close ally of Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, and cousin of Supergirl.

Origins and Becoming Superman

Kal-El was born on Krypton to Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, who sent him to the planet Earth as an infant in a special pod to escape their planet, which was soon to be destroyed. The pod crash-landed in Smallville, Kansas, and was discovered by the kindly human farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, who adopted the baby Kal and named him "Clark Kent", raising him as their own.

As Clark got older, the radiation from Earth's yellow sun seeped into his Kryptonian cells to give him incredible abilities. Under his parents' guidance, he became ethical, kind, and helpful, but also rather awkward and anxious. Even after he was told about his Kryptonian heritage, Clark stayed away from the pod, buried in the field of the Kents' farm, out of fear of losing his human connection.[2]

At some point in time during his childhood, Clark experienced his first snow day and was amazed at how powerful snow was. How it caused his parents to act like children and caused his school to shut down, he began to consider snow "magic"[3]

When Clark grew up he went to a college or high school where he met the curious and excitable Jimmy Olsen, during their first meeting Clark broke the door handle in half trying to open the door. Clark tried to play it off as though the screw were loose and while Jimmy didn't believe him he decided to pretend to seeing how sensitive the subject seemingly was for Clark.[4]

Later on Clark and Jimmy graduated and got a job at the Daily Planet, on their first day Clark on his job ran into Lois Lane unaware she was going to become his coworker. Clark later met her again at the Daily Planet along with Jimmy and his boss Perry White, the 2 at the moment were interns for the planet. Despite Perry telling them to not go anywhere and stay at the planet and make coffee, Lois claimed that Perry was just saying that so that way they would impress him. Clark and Jimmy were surprised by this but decided to go along with it and met up with Flip Johnson and the Newskid Newspaper who gave them information in exchange for having their paper featured in the newspaper.[5]

While they do this, Clark notices Lois getting texted by Perry but Lois lies and tells him that Perry wants them to continue. The 3 then get within a warehouse where Clark gets a call from Perry telling them if they do not get back to the planet they are fired. Clark confronts Lois who admits to having lies and the 3 go their separate ways with Jimmy following Lois. Clark feels guilty for arguing with Lois when Flip informs him that Lois and Jimmy are being attacked by robots, Clark finds them being attacked and after failing to help them as a "normal man" Clark grabs a jacket and uses his abilities to help them eventually stopping all of them leading to Lois giving him the alias "Superman". The 3 head to the planet with their new story but Perry does not believe them due to the blurry images but Lois is determined for them to try again.[2]

The next day Lois drags Clark and Jimmy to an abandoned office within the planet claiming it as their "base of operations". Lois tells them that she wants to know more about Superman and Clark decides he wants to know more about himself to and comes up with an excuse to head to the Kent Farm. There Clark tells his mother Martha about Lois and what he did and the 2 go in the backyard and Clark digs up his spaceship. Martha is worried that the ship may change Clark but Clark assures her before going in where he meets Jor-El who shows him the destruction of Krypton before giving him a a Kryptonian protective suit. Clark comes out of the ship and after some small edits to the suit he saves Lois and Jimmy from Livewire, Clark seeing the battle clean it up and later comes back to the apartment and then met up with Lois where the 2 discussed the day and nearly kissed only for Jimmy to interrupt it.[2]

Adventures with Superman

The next few days, Clark as Superman would continue to save the city but would run into trouble with Lois repeatedly trying to interview him. When returning to the Daily Planet he'd run into Lois who'd complain about Superman dodging her questions and the two do a practice interview. Afterward, they find that all their stuff (with permission from Perry) has been stolen by Steve Lombard, Ronnie Troupe and Cat Grant stealing their stuff. This just makes Lois determined to make a story before them, Clark wanting to keep Lois away from Superman stuff instead decides to have them do a story on Intergang, a group of criminals that recently escaped Styker's Island. They go to the prison and when Clark wonders how they are gonna do the interview Lois reveals she stole Steve, Ronnie, and Cat's badges to Clark's horror. Clark is forced to take Steve, Lois takes Cat, and Jimmy takes Ronnie.[1]

They go into the prison and meet with the warden who informs them about Intergang, who are apparently not too competent, suddenly the warden gets a call from the Daily Planet about the real Steve, Ronnie, and Cat to her confusion. Clark, Lois, and Jimmy realizing they've been caught head into the cells where they discover notes from Siobhan McDougal and realize they are bank times meaning they are planning to rob the bank. Lois then makes a plan to get her and Jimmy captured like they did with Livewire unintentionally revealing that to Clark who is shocked and appalled. Intergang sees them and uses the freeze cannon on them causing a line of ice that separates Clark from Lois and Jimmy, Clark takes the opportunity to run off to get changed. Clark confronts the villains and fight them, they give him somewhat of a hard time when the freeze cannon gets stuck and everything around it gets frozen, Clark briefly gets frozen when his heat vision activates. Clark uses the heat vision on the machine and destroys the ice crystal causing him to get visions of the past.[1]

Clark as Superman then reunites with Jimmy and Lois and when they ask if Clark is okay, Superman tells them that Clark got to safety. Superman then takes Lois to get her interview, however the interview mostly goes no where as Superman knows almost nothing about his own culture. Seeing that him and Lois are going in circles he simply tells her that he's figuring himself out still and that what's important is he's there to help. Superman then leaves to change back into Clark and reunites with Lois, Clark asks Lois how the interview went and Lois calls Superman a liar at first to Clark's glee but then shock and horror.[1]

Sometime later, the three return to the Daily Planet were Lois continuously calls Superman a liar, Clark trying to protect and defend his secret identity tells her he believes Superman just wants to help. Lois is skeptical and tells Clark he's just describing himself, Perry then calls the three into his office and thinking they are going to be fired all three of them talk all at once and make excuses. Perry explains that he isn't firing them and is instead giving them a taste of reporting by having them go to Ivo Tower to get quotes and pictures for their articles. The three get ready for the party with Clark thinking Lois looks gorgeous in her dress, he begins to describe what they are doing as a date when Jimmy once again butts in and describes it as just a "hang out between friends" much to Lois and Clark's embarrassment. They arrive at the tower where Lois reveals her plans which (as per usual) are to make a name for herself, Clark tells her they should just go with the cards they were given. Lois insists and Clark uses one of the cards but like Lois does not end up having much luck when Anthony Ivo arrives.[6]

Clark overhears a conversation between Ivo and AmazoTech board members Curtis right as the conversation is about to turn physical. Ivo wanting Clark to forget whatever he heard offers to introduce him to one of the city's bachelorettes, however when he insults Lois (unbeknownst to her) Clark becomes protective and asks the questions Lois was going to use on him. Ivo feeling threatened has Clark thrown out, Lois let's Clark back in but only under the guise of fixing his suit, Clark is about to confess that he is Superman to Lois but she complains about how she hates Superman and hates him lying to her causing her to keep her mouth shut. Clark and Lois then overhear Ivo grumbling about being embarrassed by both Curtis and Clark and begins to activate the Parasite 1.0 Armor despite his assistant Alex warning him not to. Clark overhearing quickly leaves to change into Superman and arrives just in time to save Curtis when Ivo throws him out the window. To display the armor, Ivo and Superman fight but it becomes clear that Clark won't win the battle as fighting Ivo just gives him more power.[6]

Superman tries to fly away but even that gives Ivo power, Lois and Jimmy then work together to deactivate the machine that helps Ivo's suit power up allowing Superman to avoid Ivo. This causes the suit to deteriorate and maime Ivo till hes' nearly unrecognizable, Superman then puts Ivo in an ambulance, Ivo before leaving unable to understand that Superman just wants to help asks why he did all this. Superman tells Ivo to look around asks if it's really that hard to believe that some people just want to help. Superman then changes back into Clark and him and Lois have a cute moment where they discuss whether or not this was a date, Lois gives Clark 2 kisses on the cheek and then asks him to walk her home. Clark and Lois proceed to walk home unknowingly leaving Jimmy behind. [6]

Hunted By Cadmus

Unaware that Lois has discovered his secret, Clark continues to act as normal going on his morning jog and comes in with a new case to get Lois' mind off Superman. Lois suggests asking Superman for help, Clark refuses stating that he believes Superman doesn't know anything but Lois insists, Clark instead takes this as Lois accepting and gets ready to get the job done. Suddenly he hears the radio multiple times and goes out multiple times as Superman to save the day in an obvious manner but makes the excuse of getting food which he never comes back with which makes it easier for Lois to suspect that he is Superman. Clark continues to save the city as Lois tries to catch up with him, eventually she does and asks Superman about Clark, Superman to not expose his identity plays dumb but Lois not giving up cuffs herself to Superman until Clark can arrive. Heat Wave then arrives and engages Superman in battle, however when he gauntlets malfunction she explains that her and her team have been caught by someone she believes to be Superman, Superman denies such accusations but Heat Wave is unwilling to believe it could be anyone else. Heat Wave's gauntlets then reactivate and Superman protects Heat Wave as she gets away, believing Lois is in danger Superman takes her to the Daily Planet and breaks the handcuffs before leaving. [7]

Superman then followed Heat Wave and found her with the two continuing their battle, as they did Deathstroke who had been following them (unbeknownst to them) was watching from afar waiting on orders from The General and Amanda Waller. After being told to attack Heat Wave, Deathstroke went after her but Superman began protecting Heat Wave while also trying to stop her, this led to Superman being attacked by both robots and Deathstroke at which point The General and Amanda Waller revealed themselves. They told Superman of their intentions to "expose him" and prove he was not who he said he was, during the battle Deathstroke and Superman knocked down a road pillar, Superman knocked Deathstroke away to stop him from destroying the road pillar as doing so put civilians in danger and he wanted to fix it. Seeing that the battle was putting civilians in danger he decided (against Amanda's judgement) to retract Deathstroke as Superman fixed the pillar. Superman upon seeing that Deathstroke was gone left and went back to being Clark and reunited with Lois, however a wound on his neck that he tried to explain away as a "shaving incident" gave him away and Lois to test if he was Superman or not jumped off the building giving Clark no choice but to reveal himself. The two then had a disagreement in which Lois made it clear that whatever she and Clark had was over at which point the two both sadly went their separate ways unaware that Jimmy had been kidnapped.[7]

  • Kryptonian Physiology: Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Clark possesses the same potential powers as an average Kryptonian. These include:
    • Solar Energy Absorption: Under optimal conditions, this is the main source of Clark's super powers as they are contingent upon exposure to solar radiation from a yellow sun star system. Their biological make up includes a number of organs which lack analogues in humans and whose functions are unknown. It is believed that between one or more of these and their bio-cellular matrix, "yellow" solar energy is stored for later use. This allows for the use of these powers to fade when yellow solar radiation is not available instead of immediate failure.
    • Heat Vision: Clark can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. can vary the heat and area affected.
    • Super-Hearing: Clark's hearing is sensitive enough to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. With skill and concentration, can block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency.
    • Enhanced Vision: Clark's vision processes the entire electromagnetic spectrum as well as allowing vast control over selective perception and focus.
This umbrella ability includes the following:
      • Electromagnetic Spectrum Vision: Clark can see well into most of the electromagnetic spectrum. They can see and identify radio and television signals as well as all other broadcast or transmitted frequencies. Using this ability, they can avoid detection by radar or satellite monitoring methods. This also allows them to see the aura generated by living thing.
      • Telescopic Vision: This is the ability to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. Though limited, the exact extent of the ability is undetermined. In function, it is similar to the zoom lens on a camera.
      • X-Ray Vision: This is the ability to see through any volume of matter except lead. Clarks can see things behind a solid, opaque object as if it were not there. They can focus this ability to "peel back" layers of an object, allowing hidden image or inner workings to be observed. The exact type of energy perceived—such as x-rays, cosmic rays, or some other energy invisible to normal humans—is unclear. This ability perceives an ambient energy source though, it does not involve the eye projecting a concentrated, possibly toxic, beam to be reflected back from objects.
      • Microscopic Vision: This is the ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level.
      • Infrared Vision: Clark can see with better acuity in darkness, and to a degree in total darkness.
    • Flight: Clark is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. This ranges from hovering to moving in any posture, in any direction.
    • Invulnerability: Due to the interaction of dense molecular structure and supercharged bio-electric aura, Clark is nigh-invulnerable to extreme energy forces. In addition, extends this protection against toxins and diseases.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Clark is able to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an indefinite period of time. This based on body converting yellow solar radiation directly to energy, but is limited by physiological and psychological needs to eat, drink, and sleep.
    • Superhuman Strength: Clark's strength is augmented by yellow solar radiation interacting with the greater than human density, resilience and biological efficiency of musculature. strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application force, such as moving a mountain top without said rock crumbling under its own mass.
    • Superhuman Speed: Clark is able to move at incredible speed by sheer force of will. This extends to perceptions and allows for feats such as catching bullets in mid flight as well as covering vast distances in little or no time.
      This also confers:
    • Super-Breath: Clark is able to create hurricane force winds by exhaling air from lungs. can chill the air as it leaves lungs to freeze targets. can also reverse the process to pull large volumes of air or vapor into lungs.
    • Longevity: Clark can live longer than regular humans, remaining at their prime as long as they was under the exposure of the "yellow" sun.
