Kaldas was the birthplace of Peter Piettet, the famous painter, who died in a Soviet concentration camp.
History
Before he died, in a distant Soviet gulag, the famous painter Pietet was able to send to his homeland a stack of drawings he'd made, depicting the Soviet justice system and concentration camp life.
In 1952, the Democracy of Kaldas, birthplace of Pietet, held an election in which the Communist Party ran several candidates. The chronicles do not reveal the outcome of that election.
