History
The name Kane is a common name in the Batman legacy, especially tied to Batwoman.
The Kanes of Kane County, found their wealth in the lands just north of Gotham City. Around the turn of the century, their wealth grew even more when their land was connected to the city by the Robert H. Kane Memorial Bridge, masterminded by Cameron Kane in honor of his son.[1]
Several generations later, his descendant Roderick Kane sold the majority of the industries. He had at least five children: Martha,[2] Nathan, Philip, Jacob and an unnamed son (Bette Kane's father),[3] though their order of birth is unclear. Nathan inherited the fortune after their father's death,[4] which implies he was the eldest.
Family Tree
Notes
- The predominance of the surname Kane is in honor of Batman creator Bob Kane.
- The names Katherine and Elizabeth are common in this family.
- Pre-Crisis, Betty Kane was a niece of Kathy Kane. Post-Crisis, some references to "Aunt Kathy" remained,[5] though in Batwoman: Cutter, she used "Aunt Cathy" instead, referring to Catherine Hamilton, her step-aunt. Her relationship to Katherine Webb-Kane, if any, is unrevealed, though the first Batwoman did use a sidekick Bat-Girl resembling pre-Crisis Betty.
Trivia
- Adeline Kane, Damien Kane, Frances Kane, Hogarth Kane and Nate Kane do not appear to be related to this Kane Family.
