Kanto 13 was Darkseid's personal assassin before Iluthin, now known as Kanto, rose to that position.
History
Kanto 13 once caught Iluthin, a student at Granny Goodness' Orphanage, stealing from his armory. As punishment, Granny put Iluthin on a Gauntlet against his other students. Iluthin however was skilled and almost escaped the gauntlet, but Kanto 13 intercepted him and was about to execute him. Still, Darkseid stopped the execution and saw potential in Iluthin, so decided to spare him and send him away from Apokolips on a test. Kanto 13, however, was not happy with that decision, and decided to hunt Iluthin to get revenge.[1] He tracked Iluthin to the Renaissance Italy, where he crashed Iluthin's wedding with Claudia Borgia and killed the bride before retreating.[2] However, Kanto 13 dropped Apokoliptian technology, which Iluthin used to follow the assassin back to Apokolips. The two men battled again, but Iluthin was resourceful and poisoned Kanto 13's water before the fight. As Kanto 13 agonized on the floor, Darkseid stepped in to witness the outcome, who ended up destroying his former master assassin and appointing Iluthin as his replacement, who even took his name, Kanto, for himself.[3]
