Congo Bill was given a Magic Ring that allowed him to become Congorilla.

History

Professional safari organizer, trail guide, and explorer William "Congo Bill" Glenmorgan was bequeathed a magic ring by his old friend Chief Kawolo. According to Kawolo, the ring, when rubbed, would cause the ring's wearer to transfer his own mind into the living body of the legendary, immortal Golden Gorilla, who lived in that region. Bill was skeptical about all this, but he accepted the ring to honor his old friend's dying wish.

Kawolo's story turned out to be true, and for several years afterward Congo Bill had a number of super adventures, using the supernaturally powerful and durable form of the Golden Gorilla to solve a variety of emergencies and defeat a number of criminals and villains, still preferring to spend most of his time in his own body.

Years later, Bill's own body, and the original mind of "Bogadu" the Golden Gorilla, were killed, leaving Glenmorgan's consciousness permanently installed in the immortal beast's powerful body.
