Kent Nelson, also known as the hero Doctor Fate, was a powerful hero who wielded the Helmet of Nabu. He was bound to the dealings of fate, but this didn't stop him from aiding Batman and the Insurgency against Superman's Regime.
History
Before Metropolis
Before the destruction of Metropolis, Kent Nelson was the husband of the original Doctor Fate Inza Cramer, a member of the Justice Society. Eventually, Inza died, and Kent took her stop, accepting the Helmet of Nabu as the new Doctor Fate.
Year Two

After the destruction of Metropolis and the institution of Superman's Regime, Doctor Fate retreated to the Tower of Fate outside of space and time. There, he resided with Zatanna Zatara, offering assistance to the Insurgency as fate allowed.
At the end of the first year of the Regime, Superman broke Batman's back over his knee, forcing the Bat and Alfred to retreat to the Tower of Fate. There, Doctor Fate and Zatanna protected him for nine months while he recovered from his injury.
During the penultimate fight between Superman and the Green Lantern Corps, nine months after Batman's disappearance, Doctor Fate intervened only once, saving the life of Black Canary, who was fated to be murdered by Superman. Fate transported Canary to an alternate dimension, healing her wounds, so that she could continue her life with her newborn son and an alternate reality version of her deceased husband.
Year Three
Main article: Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Three Vol 1
During the third year of the Regime, more magicians were brought in to fight Superman and his new ally, an an entity pretending to be the Spectre. The Insurgency used the Tower of Fate as their home base, as it was relatively safe from Superman. Doctor Fate protected the location, keeping an eye out for anyone who tried to locate them.
When the Spectre finally did find the Insurgency, Doctor Fate warned the heroes of the incoming attack as the Regime members burst inside to apprehend them. John Constantine, acting quickly, summoned the demon Trigon to distract the Regime members, sacrificing the Tower of Fate to escape to their new headquarters: the House of Mystery.
The Regime followed the Insurgency and continued their fight on Earth. Though Hal Jordan cornered both Doctor Fate and Constantine, Fate revealed that reality was unfolding, as their dimension was beginning to collide with that of Hell. All the combatants were brought inside either the House of Secrets or the House of Mystery for protection except those that died and Swamp Thing. [1]
Thanks to a collaboration between the Insurgents and the Regime, Shazam and Doctor Fate managed to banish Trigon and Mxyzptlk into the void, saving the day. In the aftermath, Zatanna successfully collected the Insurgents and teleported them to Batman's bunker under the world's largest lead mine in Alaska, making that their new headquarters. Constantine confirmed, according to Batwoman, Fate had disappeared in the explosion with the two opposing forces - possibly to never return. [2]

Brainiac's Invasion
After defeating the society in Gorilla City, Dr. Fate appears before Black Canary and Green Arrow, cryptically warning them about an upcoming threat. When they refuse to heed his warning, Nabu takes over and fights the hero of the player's choice. Afterwards, it is shown that the threat was Brainiac.
Kent is seen trying to help some random civilians that are near death due to the invasion. However Nabu takes control once again, preventing Kent from saving a woman. It is here, Nabu states that he believes in Brainiac's methods, seeing them as the ultimate form of balance. During Chapter 11, Doctor Fate reappears, once again controlled by Nabu and fights either Superman or Batman, again the player's choice, as the Lord of Order sees the duo as agents of chaos. After the battle, Superman collapses the Helm of Fate, freeing Kent from Nabu's control, where he voices his apology. However before Kent can offer his aid, he is killed by one of the tendrils in the ship.
Possible Post-Brainiac Epilogue
Upon beating "Classic" mode in Injustice: Gods Among Us or "Multiverse" mode in Injustice 2 with any playable fighter, the player would receive a possible alternate ending to the game's story featuring their fighter. These alternate histories should not be seen as relevant to future sequels or comic adaptations.
"The Lords of Order believed Earth couldn't be saved. That only Brainiac's evil could restore order. I knew refusing the Lords' fate would anger them, and that they'd try to destroy me. Anyone else would have no where to run. Fortunately, I still had friends in low places. The House of Mystery guards the Helm. Zatanna and Constantine's spells conceal me from the Lords.
But it was John's daughter Rose who gave me the greatest gift of all. My wife Inza returned to life and in my arms again! For the first time since taking up the Helm, I don't know what tomorrow will bring. And that is ... perfect."
