Kevin Whitney is the owner of the Kryptonian superdog, Krypto.
History
Kevin Whitney is the oldest child and only son of Mary and Eddie Whitney. On his first day in Metropolis, he had trouble finding new friends, being bullied by two older boys by throwing his Frisbee at the top of a tree. When Kevin was trying to get his frisbee back, he met up with Krypto, who helped him to recover his Frisbee.
After playing with Krypto, Kevin noticed that the dog had superpowers, comparing them to Superman's. After showing Krypto a photo of Superman, Kevin was told that Krypto didn't recognize him and that he had no one else to be with. Kevin felt sorry for Krypto and offered him to stay at the former's house. Although Kevin's mother seemed to like the idea, his father was only convinced after Kevin's mom blackmailed him with a pineapple cream cheese pie.[3]
While Kevin and Krypto were enjoying the drawings made by Superman that were inside Krypto's ship, they saw a news report about a ship full of wild animals sinking. Krypto had the idea to fly there and rescue them, which Kevin argued that someone might recognize him, immediately thinking of dressing him up as a superhero and calling him "Mistery Mutt". Unfortunately, the entire costume Kevin had made was ripped from Krypto's body when he flew away at super speed.
After Krypto returned, Kevin was preparing to go to sleep, when Superman himself appeared at his window. Kevin handed him the drawings that Superman had made as a child. When it occurred to him that Superman might want to take Krypto back, Kevin was saddened and hugged Krypto, as if saying goodbye. Superman, however, granted Kevin the responsibility of staying with Krypto.[4]
