Kitty Killdare was an orphan living in the abusive County Orphanage who ran away to Paradise Island.

History

Kitty and her brother Terry had been caught trying to escape the orphanage and severely punished, and when Kitty first had a minute she found the storage closet Terry was locked in and freed him so they could try to flee once more. They were caught, but Steve Trevor walked in the room as Superintendent Reegan was beating them giving them a chance to escape. They hid in a trunk that unbeknownst to them belonged to Wonder Woman and were accidentally transported to Paradise Island. Upon their arrival Kitty made fast friends with one of the Amazon girls her age and Hippolyta gave them permission to stay while a new Superintendent was found for their orphanage, but Terry couldn't remain indefinitely as he would be barred from portions of the island and culture as he aged into adulthood due to Aphrodite's law.
