Synopsis for "Batman"

The story starts with a flashback to when Batman, thinking about how often his enemies have tried to turn his fears against him, attempted to use experimental technology to train himself against images/attacks centering on his memory of his parents dying in the alleyway.

In the present, Bruce is inside a nightmare after being put to sleep by Insomnia. The dream shows him the alleyway where his parents died with his parents inviting him to come join them, but Bruce remembers that this is a dream and how he got here. Bruce tries to wake himself up, saying that he's trained for this, but can't. After dodging several nightmare obstacles (and criticizing Insomnia for his lack of originality in trying to scare Bruce with his memories of the alleyway, the deaths of his loved ones, etc) Bruce realizes that the reason he can't wake up is because Deadman possessed Bruce's body after he went to sleep, and he can't wake up as long as Deadman is still in control.

Insomnia attempts to convince Bruce to give up fighting and help him find the Nightmare Stone, but Bruce refuses, deciding that he must go deeper into his own mind and nightmare to wrest control back from Deadman. Insomnia however says that despite Bruce's criticism of the dream content, it has been him and not Insomnia in control of it this entire time, and if someone who has seen as many horrible things as Bruce goes deeper into his own mind there's no telling what he'll find. Bruce goes through a tunnel and emerges to find himself in the alleyway with his parents again, except as Joe Chill with a gun in his hand. Without control of his body, he raises the gun and fires.
