Kobe Asuru was an African activist Clark Kent met early in his career.

Kobe was a Ghuri - a tribe that had long had a subservient role to the neighboring Turaaba. Owning all the wealth in the region, the Turaaba slowly erased Ghuri culture. Kobe Asuru stood up to defend his tribe, and for that, he was a marked man.

His story gained international attention, and the press came to look him up. Lois Lane profiled him and several months later, freelance reporter Clark Kent did a feature on him for a Ghanaian newspaper. Clark saved him from two assassination attempts and helped him organize his fight. But as Asuru was giving a speech to plead for representation in the national parliament, Turaaba gunmen targeted his village. Clark rushed in to help them, but as they did, the military arrested Asuru. In the chaos, Asuru was stabbed.

Hearing the commotion in the city, Clark rushed back and cornered the assailant. Afraid of Clark's aggressiveness, the assailant gave up Representative Siye Kibele, Asuru's biggest political enemy, as the mastermind behind the attack. Kobe died before medical attention arrived. In the aftermath, Kibele was forced to stand down and Kobe's sister Abena was appointed as a probational representative until the electoral process was reworked to include representation for the Ghuri.
