The Korean War was a real-world military conflict between North Korea and South Korea that lasted from 1950 to 1953. The war began due to Cold War tensions and the division of Korea at the end of World War II. North Korea was backed by Communist China and the Soviet Union , while South Korea was backed by a U.N. force led by the United States. U.S. involvement ended when an armistice treaty was signed, leading to the creation of a demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. However, no peace treaty has been signed, and the two Koreas are still technically at war as of this writing. There have been several references to the Korean War in the DC Universe.
