Kulan Dar was an alien enemy of the Atom.

Origin

Kulan Dar was an intergalactic traveler from the planet Julnar, whose teleportation ability came from the ingestion of large amounts of Element 63, Europium. Forced to land on Earth, Kulan fell in the thrall of a petty criminal and was forced to steal as well as battle the Atom. In the end, the Atom freed him and gave him enough Europium to return home.

Battle of the Tiny Titans

The Planet Julnar was thousands of light years away, and its people were able to teleport through space by ingesting large amounts of Europium, which was rare but was found on Earth. A cosmic storm neutralized Kulan's teleportation ability and he was forced down. Unfortunately, he was found by petty crook Carl Ballard, who used Kulan's miniature Dominator device to enslave him and made Kulan steal money and jewelry, framing one of Palmer's friends.[1]

Kulan attempted to break Ballard's hold on him by stealing Europium from the Atom, but while the attempted theft failed, he did manage to catch the Atom's attention. Kulan was desperate to locate enough Europium to return home, but Carl only fed him enough to commit the robberies.

When the Atom had freed him from the clutches of Carl Ballard and given Kulan a supply of Europium, Kulan Dar demonstrated his trustworthiness. Before blipping off to Julnar, Kulan teleported to the Ivy Town courthouse and proved the innocence of Ray Palmer's friend, Alma, thus paying his debt to the Atom.

Powers

Abilities

  • Navigation

Weaknesses

  • Ionization: Kulan Dar's Europium stores were neutralized by a cosmic ionization field; and Kulan himself could be contained within ionized glass.

Equipment

  • This version of Kulan Dar, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
  • Kulan Dar appears to be aware of his passage through space; as he can travel to places that he has not seen, as well as finding the Earth when his larger trip was interrupted by cosmic ionization.
