Until 1947, two South American nations, Lancho and Raulo, disputed the ownership of a mutually-unwanted territory, the "Place of the Green Plague."
History
In South America is a dangerous region called the "Place of the Green Plague,' bordered on one side by Lancho and on the other by Raulo, and vociferously disclaimed by both nations. In 1947 the famous roving Blackhawk Squadron explored this region, and found a fantastically fertile forest region producing abundant fruits, and rocks rich in copper and gold ore. It was patrolled by bandits and savages, and was rigged with deadfalls and other booby traps, some of which emitted a deadly "Green Plague" alkali gas.
The natives had a town, with a step-pyramid at the center of it. Nearby was a well from which the deadly Green Plague gas was piped out to the borders of Lancho and Raulo. This well was neutralized by two of the Blackhawks, Chop Chop and Olaf, using juice from a highly acidic local fruit, that neutralized the alkali poison gas. After an altercation between the Chief and the Blackhawks, it was agreed that settlers from Lancho and Raulo would come in to the region and live in peace with the native people.
