The Langford Home was a spacious two story house located in the middle of the Louisiana wetlands.
History
Home to the Langford family, the house was adjacent to a lake and boat house as well as the connecting swamp environment. The matriarch of the Langford home was elderly Savanna Langford who lived there for many years along with her husband and family. Her daughter Tressa grew up in the house, but moved to Philadelphia to pursue a career in psychology when she came of age.
In 1990, Tressa brought her nine-year-old son Jim Kipp to the house for the summer. Tressa and Jim had a rocky relationship, mostly due to her son's compulsive lying. She had hoped that taking some time away from the big city would help them. Tressa was going to leave Jim at the house and return to Philadelphia, but a heartfelt conversation with her mother convinced her to stay.[1]
While living at the home, Jim had his own row boat which he kept secured at the boat house on the estate. The boat house was maintained by a young handy man named Oboe Hardison.
The land that the Langford home sat upon was highly coveted by the ambitious scientist Anton Arcane. Arcane had pull with local real estate developers and played a key, though behind-the-scenes part in blackmailing Savannah into changing her will. In the revised will, she was forced to leave the property to the county – something she despised doing since she disliked all of the county-sponsored renovation work that had been done in the swamp over the past several years. Her original will, which left her home to her surviving family, was hidden away inside of a boat-shaped grove of trees in the middle of the swamp.[2]
Savanna Langford eventually passed away and a large funeral reception was held for her in the house.[3] Soon after, the matter of Savanna's will came into play. Tressa met with an attorney (an old school chum) who showed her the revised will and announced that Tressa had to vacate the premises. Tressa knew that the will was phony, but had no idea how to prove it. Strangely enough, both Jim and Tressa had dreams wherein Savannah sang to them a song, giving them clues as to the location of the original will. Tressa and Jim obeyed their instincts, and together they went out into the swamp and recovered it. With the true will back in their possession, Tressa was able to keep the family home.[4]
