- I thought Green Lantern's was the ultimate power. I knew what it was to wield enough naked energy to alter time and space. To change the universe. But, compared to the Wrath, G.L.'s power is like a flickering candle beside an exploding sun. It just...erupts in me, through me. And, Jim...I haven't learned to control it yet. The Specre is controlling me!
Legends of the DC Universe #33 is an issue of the series Legends of the DC Universe (Volume 1) with a cover date of October, 2000.
Synopsis for "On Earth as it is in Heaven"
Hal Jordan, formerly Green Lantern, is now the human host for the Spectre, spirit of God's Wrath. As such, he visits heaven, where he meets his mother, or so it seems, as she soon becomes in quick succession, Jim Corrigan (the former Spectre), two of Hal's old heroic comrades and an angel. Each of them tells him a little about heaven, about himself and about the mission of the Spectre.
Hal has been finding life as the Spectre horrific, with the wrath controlling him rather than the other way around, and Hal finds the punishments he delivers to be gruesome and excessive. He also finds it hard when old friends no longer recognize him as who he is: Carol Ferris for instance. Or his brother and his niece. Meanwhile, he is unaware that a man named Caul is tracking him, in order to learn more about the Spectre.
Hal finds himself back on Earth, accompanied by the spirit of Abin Sur, the Green Lantern before Hal, who says he will be around for some time, as a friend.
