Synopsis for "Caul"
A man named Caul has seen his future: death at the hands of the Spectre, and wants to avert this by making a pre-emptive strike against the spirit of wrath. Hal Jordan, the Spectre's host, is meanwhile struggling with his new role, finding that the Spectre force takes him over at times so that he is just a spectator to terrible actions. He expresses his concern to Abin Sur, who points out that Jordan must adjust his attitudes to the whole of his new life, to remember that he is in some ways no longer human.
Caul tracks Hal Jordan down to a diner, where he promises that they will soon meet. The Spectre force once more takes full control of Hal, wanting to meet Caul sooner rather than later. Abin Sur tries to persuade the Spectre force to allow Jordan to have more control, but is swept aside. At Stonehenge and then at a more ancient place, Caul and the Spectre do battle, until Jordan, who has a better perspective on things, realises that none of this is real, and forces Caul out of his/their mind. Caul tells Hal that he is not yet the Spectre, he is currently two forces (the human and the divine) at war with one another, and so both vulnerable to him. Or more importantly, to the souls of the Spectre's innumerable victims. The combined hate of these souls is seemingly enough to trap the Spectre as a statue.
