Synopsis for "Nothing to Fear"

Caul gloats in his triumph as the Spectre is devoured by the souls of his many victims, yet finds he is still haunted by the vision of his death at the Spectre's hands. He and his girlfriend Marsha then attend a meeting of CIA members with psychic abilities (Caul was once a member of their group) where he tempts them with a vision of a new world, wiped clean of humanity's stains. But when they open their minds to him to allow this to come to be, he kills them, absorbing their psychic energies.

Abin Sur enters Hal Jordan's mind, where he finds a man petrified of power and of the evil that can be wrought with it. Sur tries to tell Hal that he is worthy of power, that his decision to give Hal a Green Lantern ring was ultimately the right one, but Hal does not want to hear it. This does however force a confrontation between Jordan and the spirit of wrath, which ends with Jordan abandoning the wrath to his victims and taking the Spectre's power himself.

Caul, meanwhile, despatches his girlfriend (who turns out to be a CIA plant) and proceeds to destroy the world. And so, when Hal emerges from his prison, he finds his victory to be hollow, as everything he knows has been destroyed.
