Quote1 Sometimes I think the root of xenophobia is the fear of falling in the kind of love that the universe doesn't allow. It's been a truism since the beginning of time. The more beings we encounter, the more alone we feel. The universe is filled with stories of lovers from different places who want to be together but can't. It's the story of Romeo and Juliet. Quote2

Long Live the Legion is a Legion of Super-Heroes storyline written by Geoff Johns and Michael Shoemaker, with illustrations by Clayton Henry. It was published as a back-up feature to Johns' The Boy of Steel in Adventure Comics. This story is part of Johns' Legion saga following The Lightning Saga, Superman and the Legion of Super-Heroes, and Legion of 3 Worlds. This is his penultimate chapter, and the story concludes in the next arc of Adventure Comics titled Last Stand of New Krypton.

Synopsis

The delusional Starman explains the origin of the Legion of Super-Heroes to a pigeon. He explains that he's a secret member of the Legion Espionage Squad, and there are several others hidden in the past to help save the world. In the swamps of Smallville he finds Tellus, who temporarily repairs his mental illness. Starman gives Tellus the battle plan for their upcoming war.[1] In the 31st Century, Cosmic Boy and Saturn Girl talk to Lightning Lad about his tendency to act out of anger without thinking. Lightning Lad is called to Takron-Galtos by Lightning Lord, who offers to give up his Legion's safehouses in exchange for a favor. Lightning Lord believes that his parents lied and he had a twin separated at bith. Lightning Lad flies to Winath, in hopes of finding this lost sibling.[2] Polar Boy and Sun Boy visit Tharr to deal with a new villain named Cryo-King. Polar Boy is repeatedly made fun of by his own people for starting the Legion of Substitute Heroes. Cryo-King is a Legion of Super-Villains reject who wants to gain membership by killing a Legionnaire. They defeat Cryo-King together, and he reveals that the Legion of Super-Villains also has an Espionage Squad in the 21st Century.[3] Blok is determined to find his true love the White Witch, and he travels to Sorcerers' World with Dawnstar and Wildfire. They learn that Mysa has become the Black Witch, totally absorbing Mordru's dark magic. In this form, she hopes to transform his evil into a force of good in the universe. Mysa fixes Blok's injuries caused by Mordru, and he swears that he will stay with her for as long as she needs. Dawnstar and Wildfire go home alone, wishing that they could find a way to truly be together as well.[4]
